Under the slogan “Let’s join against the war. I will not raise my children to kill yours,” a big number of Venezuelan women decided to march last Monday, March the 8th, on the International Women’s Day, to the US embassy in order to hand over a document as a protest against the US invasion in Iraq.

Likewise, the protesters were happy to celebrate the International Women’s Day, on which they claim their rights and do credit to their important role in society.

Different Women’s Rights Organizations at this event expressed their rejection to the US invasion in Iraq and their satisfaction regarding the celebration of the International Women’s Day.

After Venezuelan women finished marching, congresswomen Cilia Flores and Desiré Santos handed over the document expressing the Venezuelan women’s demand regarding the withdrawal of US troops from Iraq to the US embassy’s Press and Culture Attaché, Salomé Hernández.

Hernández explained that US Ambassador to Venezuela, William Brownfield, was not at the document’s handing over because he was out of town. The representatives of this march were received by Hernández at the gate of the US embassy.

This initiative by these Venezuelan congresswomen is part of “The Venezuelan Solidarity Week with the US people” to be held in Caracas from March the 7th to March the 14th.
