It appears the Straussian neocons ensconced in the Pentagon and in the final planning stages of the shock and awe campaign against Iran, on tap for March, have a new complication to consider: “Firebrand Iraqi cleric Moqtada al-Sadr has assured Iran that his Shi’ite Muslim militiamen will support the Islamic Republic if it comes under attack, the official IRNA news agency reported on Sunday,” Reuters notes. “If neighboring Islamic countries, including Iran, should come under attack, then the Mehdi Army will support them,” Sadr said in Tehran.

Sadr’s Mehdi Army or Jaish al-Mahdi consists of roughly 10,000 militia who are in control of several areas of Iraq. In April, 2004, Jaish al-Mahdi began an offensive in Najaf, Kufa, Kut, and Sadr City after the closing of the Sadr-owned newspaper al-Hawza and arresting of one of his senior aides. Jaish al-Mahdi was more or less defeated and Sadr called for a ceasefire, however if Iran is attacked and the occupation forces in Iraq come under attack (a foregone conclusion), the re-activation of Jaish al-Mahdi will certainly complicate things, to say the least.

But then this is what the Straussian neocons desire—the turn up the heat in the Middle East until it explodes into a full-fledged conflagration, thus forcing the United States to go on a full-war (total war) footing.

Unfortunately, when the dollar tumbles precipitously in March, and the shock and awe campaign in Iran shuts down the world’s oil fix, and a depression follows, the American people, hard-pressed and desperate, will do whatever the government wants, including donating their first born to the Straussian neocon plan for world domination, an impossible and demented dream but one that will nonetheless kick off their plan for World War Four.
